Well-known Staten Island esthetician launches spa party business for kids

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Well-known Staten Island esthetician Michelle Cicero had her most memorable childhood birthday at age 5 when her mother threw her a spa party.
As a youngster, Cicero found the just-for-kids pampering session so exciting. And since that fond memory always stayed with her, Cicero found herself throwing her daughter a spa party for her sixth birthday.
“Luxe Kids Party specializes in offering self-care treatments in a fun way. ... I consistently re-educate myself to stay up-to-date with new treatments and offers in the beauty treatment industry. “I started to think about throwing a party for her like the one I had when I was a child. I know from friends and family with daughters that there isn’t a spa venue on Staten Island that offers children true spa services. Most of the venues are open spaces that decorate for any theme,” she said.
This got Cicero, who was already looking for a larger space for her beauty business, Luxe Esthetics by Michelle --previously located in Sola Salons in Port Richmond -- thinking about launching a new arm of her already established beauty business.

“Since I’ve been in the beauty industry on Staten Island for the last 20 years and I needed to find a new, larger location for my adult spa, I decided to find a space with enough room to throw parties offering tailored, high-quality spa services at an affordable price,” she said. “As I looked for party venues for my daughter’s upcoming birthday, I realized how expensive venues can be. I decided to open a place for adults and children on Staten Island that’s more affordable.”

THE SPA EXPERIENCE
For children’s parties, Luxe Kids Party: Spa Party Experience offers mini-facials, manicures, pedicures and various spa-related arts and crafts, said Cicero.

“Each guest is provided a silky spa robe, flip flops and headbands. We play games, conduct a fashion show, and offer fun hair and makeup sessions. Also, depending on the package: glitter tattoos, color hair extension braids, and various party favors [are included]. We also include food and beverages for the party guests,” she said.
“We do mini-facials where it’s like a do-it-yourself facial. I give them instructions and I walk them through it,” Cicero added.

And she said it’s not just about beauty; it’s about having fun.

CREATING SMILES
One of the most rewarding parts of her job, she says, is the smiles she sees on the kids’ faces during and after the spa event.
“I’m excited to now be able to offer children on Staten Island a fun way to experience the same level of self-care during a party with their friends,” said Cicero. “The expression on their faces when they feel glammed because they had a spa treatment like their moms and dads, makes it all worth for me. I want my daughter and other children to understand the importance of personal self-care and to know that it’s available to them as well.”

PROMOTING SELF CARE
Cicero said she hopes to convey a message about the importance of self care to both children and adults
“I know how hard it can be to afford and make time for self-care for myself and my child. This knowledge and my experiences motivate me to provide an affordable, clean and a safe spa for adults and children to receive the skin and beauty care they need for a healthier life,” she said.
